“A ROOM FULL OF CURIOSITIES” – DALIBOR NESNÍDAL’S EXHIBITION AT THE BREWERY MUSEUM IN PILSEN

On 2 June 2016, the Brewery Museum in Pilsen will launch an exhibition by Dalibor Nesnídal (a Czech painter, sculptor, illustrator and glass engraver) entitled “A Room Full of Curiosities.”

The artworks have been designed for the purpose of a permanent exhibition at Štědrá Castle. As the artist himself comments, this exhibition is somewhat different from his traditional line of work. The works of art have been made using a range of mostly natural materials collected all over the world. The important materials used include leather, sea sponges and seaweeds, and bones, which give the exhibition a slightly morbid atmosphere, while giving the exhibits authenticity and a touch of black humour.

You will see artworks such as “Shaman’s Teddy Bear”, “Creatures of the Sea Deep”, “A Man who Grew up in a Wine Crate” and “A Mummy of the Pharaoh’s Oarsman”.

Dalibor Nesnídal originally finished his studies of artistic metalwork. In 1981, he started working as a glass engraver in the Moser glass factory. In this period he created his first works using glass waste. Between 1990 and 2009 he worked jointly with the Milan Mottl glass factory in Karlovy Vary. Currently, he lives and creates in a small village near Žlutice called Semtěš. His hands create irreproducible pieces of art from glass, which he combines with metal, wood and other natural materials. He paints pictures and maps, illustrates books and magazines, and says: “There are so many things I would like to learn and so many things I still want to create that one life just isn’t enough.” He has been exhibiting his works since 1993, not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad.
